Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most incredible experiences imaginable. With much of the reef’s colour and marine life visible within a few metres of the water’s surface, snorkelling allows all swimmers, regardless of skill level, to get up close and personal with this unique ecosystem.
Calypso Departures
- Check in 8 am for 8.30 am departure
- Returns Port Douglas at approximately 4.40 pm
Float smoothly through vibrant coral gardens brimming with life, from clownfish to the graceful beauty of the green turtle. Hundreds of species will be encountered during your visit to Opal Reef with Calypso, including giant clams, stingrays, maori wrasse, cod, and colourful parrotfish.

Your travel itinerary
- 7:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. Check-in: Check in directly at the Calypso vessel by 8:20 a.m.
- 8:20 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Boarding Commences: Board the vessel at the Crystalbrook Marina, Port Douglas. The Calypso crew will welcome you aboard, fit you with your own snorkelling equipment, and offer light refreshments as you relax.
- 8:45 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. Cruise Time: Sit back and relax as we cruise to our first snorkelling site.
- 10:20 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. First Snorkeling Site: The crew will give an informative talk on how to use the equipment and snorkel safely. Crew members will stay in the water to assist as everyone explores the first snorkelling site. During this time, the crew will serve morning tea.
- 11:50 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Second Snorkeling Site: We will travel to our second breathtaking site, where the crew will offer guided snorkelling tours. Afterward, they will serve a tropical lunch. Following the meal, one of the crew members will conduct a reef interpretive talk.
- 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Third Snorkeling Site: We will take a short cruise to our final snorkelling site. After exploring, the crew will serve afternoon tea.
- 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Cruise Home: We will return to the marina at approximately 4:15 p.m.
Important info before travel
Please bring along swimmers, towel, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, sea sickness tablets (if required), a change of clothes (there are fresh water showers on board) and credit card (VISA, MasterCard or EFTPOS, sorry no cash) for any on board purchases. We do not provide towels for guests, however please ask your accommodation provider who will supply beach towels for you
For Calypso, we are flexible if you want to move your day of travel, subject to availability, as long as you provide us with plenty of notice (24 hours). If you decide to cancel within 24 hours of your tour departing, a cancellation fee will be charged. This could be up to 100%.

Can I cancel my tour or change my tour date?
Yes, you can cancel or amend your tour to a different date (subject to availability) if you notify us 24 hours or more prior to travel.
If you need to cancel or change dates within 24 hours of travel a 100% cancellation fee applies
Please note a ‘no show’ (where passengers do not turn up to the specified pick-up point or departure point without notification) automatically incurs a 100% cancellation fee.
Do you ever cancel?
On very rare occasions, tours can be subject to the effect of weather or unforeseen circumstances. If a tour does not operate for any reason, passengers will be offered a full refund or an alternative day of travel.
