When booking your campervan/motorhome holiday in Tasmania, there are lots of options on where to stay. The below info contains free campsites and caravan parks. Tasmania gets very busy over peak periods such as summer and school holiday periods. The busiest period is from December to April. Booking in advance is recommended. Hiring a campervan will allow you to visit all of Tasmania’s Natural Wonders such as Freycinet National Park and Cradle Mountain. There are so many great hikes to do along the way as well.

Flying in and out of Hobart is the best way to get in and out of Tasmania when booking a Van. Jetstar is one of the most popular airlines flying to Hobart. Virgin Australia and Qantas also fly here. It is a good idea to also book these tickets in advance. Keep an eye out on the sales when they come along as this can save you lots. Flying in and out of Hobart allows you to do a full lap of Tassie. The campervan companies are also based in Hobart. You can either fly in early on your first day and pickup your van directly. If you are choosing to drop off your van and fly out the same date, make sure you check the opening hours of the depots.

Alternatively, you can fly in and stay for a night in Hobart first. Planning on flying in on a Friday will allow you to visit the Salamanca Market. This is held every Saturday from 8.30 am to 3 pm, all year round.  The only exception to this is when Anzac Day and Christmas Day fall on a Saturday. You could then visit Mona Museum on Sunday and pickup your van on Monday.

If you love wildlife then Tasmania is the place for you. You can visit the little penguins for free. There are many popular spots to see little penguins around Tasmania. Please be respectful and do not get too close and do not use flash photography.
